Summary of Position

CAAAN General Committee Chairs oversee several committees in a distinct area, such as a major city or a county where there are many committees. They are responsible for motivating their committee chairs and making sure all contacts are made. General chairs are also responsible for organizing admissions events in their designated area, staffing college fairs, and finding volunteers to serve on their committees. They may be required to take on the role of committee chair in their designated region when one of their committees is without a chair.

General chairs should communicate regularly with their chairs; this is mostly done via email, but phone calls/meetings are also helpful. May occasionally be asked to speak to small groups of students/parents about the Cornell experience. General chairs are also encouraged to run group training sessions.

General chairs may need to organize and host prospective student events, admitted student events, and first-year send-offs. We also ask that chairs coordinate initiatives, goals, and deadlines on behalf of CAAAN, plus it is ideal if the general chair compiles basic statistics for their area’s committees to share with the chairs.

General chairs are responsible for recruiting and training new chairs, representing Cornell at admissions-related events, and identifying/mentoring future volunteer leaders for CAAAN._General chairs are the primary contact and liaison to admissions for their assigned area.

Requirements

Prerequisites Must have served as a CAAAN chair and demonstrated exceptional performance in that capacity.

Hiatus Required? Year-long sabbatical from all public (visible) volunteer work required if child is applying for admission to Cornell. Upon request, general chairs may be allowed to continue doing administrative work/chair mentoring during this time.
