The Council president provides leadership, guidance, and direction to the Council, and presides at all meetings of the HEYA Council and the Executive Board. The president will appoint leaders for the committees established by the Executive Board and proposes any special committees within the framework of the Council as needed. Oversees the Membership Committee and the new member selection process; serves on the Human Ecology Deans Advisory Council

The president works closely with a staff member from the HEAA&D office, including regular conference calls and leads the HEYA Council Executive Board which has monthly calls. The president is responsible for periodic communications with Human Ecology young alumni collectively and individually. The president will be asked to give reports to the Dean's AC, the HEAA Board, as well as speak to other alumni and student groups.

Strong leadership qualities and excellent meeting facilitation are expected of the president. The president is expected to encourage both individual and collective activity from council members. By managing expectations, maintains a balanced activity level of relevant and meaningful council programs that can be effectively run and have measurable outcomes. The HEYA Council president has a representative seat on the HE Dean's Advisory Council which meets twice a year, once in NYC and once in Ithaca.

Attend Human Ecology and Cornell alumni events as a representative of the HEYA to forge new and continued alumni connections to the College. Serve as an ambassador for the HEYA by encouraging alumni involvement and engagement with fellow alumni, with the College and its students. Help develop future council leaders through mentorship, by example, and by assigning special projects. Assist with new council member orientation and help identify future council members, and current volunteers, donors, and prospective students for the College.
