Summary of Position

A&S Career Connections Committee members on the Law Team serve the College of Arts & Sciences by collaborating with A&S Career Development Center and the A&S Office of Alumni Affairs and Development to connect students with alumni for the purpose of learning about career options in Law. The committee accomplishes its mission through activities, events, and networking throughout the year, both in-person AND VIRTUAL. The Law Team will plan (at a minimum) TWO events a year; Summer Events will take place in the NYC area. Winter Events will take place VIRTUALLY.

Members are expected to participate in the planning and execution of semi-annual activities aimed at connecting A&S students with A&S alumni. Each member serves on a Field Team, reflective of his or her current career field. The Field Teams are designed to provide a network of A&S alumni and A&S parents in fields of interest to A&S students. The job of these teams is to organize two events a year that engage students with alumni and others in the field to learn about careers in Law. Members are required to attend at least one ASCCC student-alumni networking event annually. ASCCC Events may occur in-person or VIRTUALLY. Each field team coordinates one winter event (VIRTUALLY) and one summer event off-campus each year, typically in the NYC metro area. Additionally, ASCCC members are also encouraged to participate in an On-campus event annually; the A&S alumni- student networking reception in September, or an A&S Career Conversation, which may occur anytime classes are in session. Members are encouraged to participate in the occasional ASCCC meeting, which take place either in NYC or on- campus or Virtually from time to time. Additional conference call meetings and planning meetings may occur at the discretion of the Team Leader.

Requirements

Prerequisites Alumni of the College of Arts & Sciences or a parent of a current A&S student; A successful career currently in the field of Law; An interest in helping A&S students learn about careers; Previous volunteer experience with A&S Career Development Center through either a Career Conversation on-campus, EXTERN/FRESH job shadowing program, or participation as a speaker or panelist at an ASCCC or field team event is preferred, but not mandatory. The Finance Team will plan (at a minimum) TWO events a year; The Law Team will plan (at a minimum) TWO events a year; Summer Events will take place in the NYC area. Winter Events will take place VIRTUALLY. Living/working daily in the NYC area is no-longer mandatory for joining the Law Team. Ability and willingness to travel to NYC for the in-person Summer Events is suggested. Ideal candidates will be located in the Domestic USA. International alumni will find this opportunity challenging.

Off Campus Location: Members are expected to participate in the planning and execution of TWO team events each year, aimed at connecting A&S students with A&S alumni. Most of the planning meetings occur via conference call or email communications, though in-person meetings may be organized by the Team Leader for the members to better get to know each other and discuss ideas. TWO events with students occur each year and include a Summer networking event in New York City and a VIRTUAL winter career panel event.

Other Meeting Details: Field Team meetings occur as needed and are organized by the Team Leader, usually to prep and plan for the team's upcoming summer and winter events. Members are strongly encouraged to attend scheduled Orientation Meetings of the ASCCC that take place either on-campus or in NYC from time to time.

Additional Attendance Requirements: Members are encouraged to participate in CALC at least once during their first term of office. CALC is Cornell's Annual Leadership Conference and provides excellent training and learning opportunities for alumni and parent volunteers. CALC typically occurs in February.
