Summary of Position

The CAU Alumni Advisory Board will provide support and advice to the CAU leadership, assist with guidance during the development and delivery of CAU's lifelong learning programs, and identify best-practice standards. Board members will also serve as ambassadors to the program, providing a connection to and ongoing exchange of information and ideas with members of the Cornell Community. Terms run in alignment with the university's fiscal year, July 1 to June 30.

Requirements

Prerequisites To be considered, nominees should be familiar with the mission and purpose of Cornell's Adult University, as well as understand the lifelong learning philosophy which CAU uses as its beacon for guiding the development, maintenance, and delivery of its learning objectives. Nominees should have experienced at least one, but preferably more, of the programs that CAU offers within the past three years. New board members will attend an orientation session and receive an orientation handbook on CAU (history, purpose, past year’s meeting materials, etc.) prior to attending their first meeting.

Off Campus Location: Board will meet three times per year, typically in-person, in New York City. January: typically Friday the week that Board of Trustees meet (3rd week of month). ­June: typically 3rd or 4th Friday. ­September: Friday TBD depending on Homecoming, Trustee-Council Annual Meeting (TCAM), and religious holidays

Other Meeting Details: Meetings are typically two hours in duration, although if the agenda warrants it, may be extended. Board meeting agenda and materials should be distributed electronically to all members at least 2 days in advance of the meeting to allow for review and preparation by members. New board members should attend an orientation session and receive an orientation handbook on CAU (history, purpose, past year’s meeting materials, etc.) prior to attending their first meeting.

Additional Attendance Requirements: Board members are expected to attend two CAU-sponsored events (on-campus summer program or off-campus study tour) during a four-year term.
