Summary of Position

Committee members will confidentially evaluate nominees through a review of prepared biographies including professional, civic and alumni involvements. Discussions of each nominee will include committee members sharing experiences based on direct interaction with nominees. Committee members will also add to the discussion by providing knowledge of a nominee’s professional or civic involvement. Committee members will be required to assist with the promotion of the annual election by sharing information with their constituency group. Additionally, as a volunteer for Cornell University, vote in Cornell's annual alumni trustee election.

Members are expected to contribute to the deliberations about each nominee, sharing experiences as they relate to volunteer, professional, or civic roles. Honest and candid dialogue and debate is critical to the committee’s process, and members must have persuasive communication skills, excellent listening skills, and the ability to act with tact and discretion.

Members will assess nominations and make decisions based on information presented, research, and conversations during meetings.

Build/Maintain Relationships

Represent Cornell
Regular attendance and participation at meetings is required. Members will represent not only Cornell and the Committee on Alumni Trustee Nominations, but also their respective constituent and affinity groups. Prospective members should have a broad and diverse engagement with Cornell through multiple involvements, and draw upon their perspective of alumni through myriad relationships they have cultivated.

Off Campus Location: The committee meets three times each year (in person and/or via Zoom) and may have one or two additional online meetings. With participation in two of the meetings essential to the continuity of the committee's deliberations, participation at one of the first two meetings is mandatory for voting privileges at the third meeting when candidates are selected.

Additional Attendance Requirements: One orientation webinar is required for all new members; All members are strongly encouraged to attend annual Cornell Alumni Leadership Conference (CALC).
