Summary of Position

The club treasurer is part of the board who provides leadership and guidance to the board and the local Cornell community. In addition, the treasurer is responsible for maintaining the club's local bank accounts and financial planning as well as ensuring club officers are informed about the appropriate allowable expenditures and reimbursements, current accounting balances, event overages and debts and any outstanding payments. The treasurer is also responsible for making deposits and payments; down and final, on behalf of the club as well as maintaining up-to-date paperwork for the bank account, PayPal account and all additional documentation.

It is important that the club Treasurer is able to speak in board meetings and share documents on club accounting with the board, along with accounting and paperwork status. Although public speaking is not mandatory, it is helpful to have a comfort level in speaking to their constituents. The ability to share a clear message is important in both speaking and communicating via email.

The club Treasurer will oversees club finances, and make payments and reimbursements in a timely manner; Follows best financial practices as determined by the Alumni Affairs Office; Completes and submits the annual financial report to the Alumni Affairs Office each year by the stated deadline; Assists the president and other officers in preparing program budgets and financial controls; Maintains and supervises club bank accounts; Ensures that there is more than one signatory on all bank accounts; Files appropriate forms as necessary; Ensures that adequate budget and financial controls are maintained; Prepares and submits financial statements to the president and the executive committee and board of directors on a regular basis, i.e. all board meetings or at minimum quarterly; Pays all club bills on time.

The club Treasurer should actively participate in succession planning and board opportunity discussions within their community. Meeting alumni and speaking with them about opportunities to engage the local Cornell community are vital to the growth of the club.
