Summary of Position
The Vice President for Recent and Young Alumni is part of the team who provides leadership and guidance to the board and the local Cornell community. In addition, this position is responsible for creating interesting opportunities for events and activities that align with Cornell University priorities to engage recent and young alumni; currently defined as 10 or fewer years out from graduation. Evaluating additional opportunities such as All-Ivy events, outside networking and Cornell-centric events is helpful to keep the schedule of events lively and interesting. Signature events help the club make a name and create a special Cornell connection while one-off opportunities create a sense of inclusion without long-term commitments.

It is important that the Vice President for Recent and Young Alumni is able to speak in board meetings and share ideas, suggestions and plans with the board, while creating a sense of excitement and interest through provoking ideas and plans. Although public speaking is not mandatory, it is helpful to have a comfort level in speaking to their constituents. The ability to share a clear message is important in both speaking and communicating via email.

The Vice President for Recent and Young Alumni will represent the interests of all recent and young alumni in the community;
Collaborate with the Vice President for Programming to develop appropriate events with recent and young alumni in mind;
Collaborate with the club’s board on ideas for the annual student send-off event;
Collaborate with the club board to come up with unique and fresh ideas to engage the local recent and young alumni community, as well as to offer perspective on proposed event and programming ideas to ensure this population is represented

The Vice President for Recent and Young Alumni should actively participate in succession planning and board opportunity discussions within their community. It is helpful to seek out members of the local community to participate and interact on another level. Actively engaging recent and young alumni to participate in all aspects of events could help encourage additional participation. Meeting alumni and speaking with them about opportunities to engage the local Cornell community are vital to the growth of the club.
