Summary of Position

NYC Cornellians is a dues free alumni organization for all of New York City (5 boroughs). Board members are responsible for the general control and management of NYC Cornellians; they transact all business of NYC Cornellians and carry out and execute its purposes. The board will include up to 15 members appointed by the Cornell Alumni Affairs & Development Office and up to 20 At-Large members elected through a general nomination process. The central purpose of the NYC Cornellians board is to coordinate with various alumni volunteer organizations who operate within NYC, the staff in the Northeast Corridor Office responsible for alumni engagement, and The Cornell Club - New York.

At-large members may be asked to represent NYC Cornellians at various events to greet and welcome attendees, thank the organizers, recognize the speakers, etc. on behalf of NYC Cornellians.

At-large members are to serve a liaisons between NYC Cornellians and another alumni organization, association, board, or group to maximize collaboration and communication. At-large members are expected to help organize, plan and/or host events.

At-large members are to engage others to get involved with NYC Cornellians or another alumni organization operating within the New York City. In addition, At-large board members are to represent Cornell University as an ever growing presence in NYC.

Requirements

Prerequisites The central purpose of the NYC Cornellians board is to coordinate with various alumni volunteer organizations who operate within NYC, the staff in the Northeast Corridor Office responsible for alumni engagement, and The Cornell Club - New York. These include, but are not limited to: Johnson School Clubs, College Alumni Associations and Councils, CAAAN, Diversity Alumni Programs alumni associations, the Cornell Hotel Society, Cornell Tech, etc. These joint members will support cross-collaboration, increase alumni engagement in all efforts within New York City, and serve as a strategic resource for local alumni organizations and Cornell entities in their execution of engagement activity in NYC. In addition, at-large board members may actively participate in maintenance of the newsletter, website, social outreach, etc. At-large board members attend events they plan and actively participate in other NYC Cornellians programming. You are an advocate for the university and excited to engage fellow alumni in the community.

Other Meeting Details: NYCC meets quarterly as a board and more frequently for committee work. Events generally occur monthly. NYCC members are expected to attend at least 3 board meetings and run or support 2 events during the year.
