Summary of Position

The College of Veterinary Medicine Advisory Council serves as an advisory group to the Dean of the College to help fulfill and implement the College’s mission and strategic objectives while striving to provide members with a gratifying opportunity to engage with and make an impact on the College. The Council shares the College’s values of commitment to veterinary medicine and education, equity, diversity, collaboration and two-way communication, intellectual curiosity, and an expectation of excellence in all areas of the Council’s work. Members will be appointed by the dean and will typically serve a two-year term with the possibility of two re-appointments. Nomination does not guarantee invitation and is confidential.

Represent the College in a volunteer leadership capacity at meetings and events within the College's and University's internal and external communities. Identify and nominate candidates for consideration for Advisory Council or other Cornell volunteer service, assist in the identification and cultivation of prospective donors, and/or advocate on behalf of the College for support. Recommend other qualified candidates to the Council. Members are strongly encouraged to join CUeLINKS to serve as mentors to students.

Requirements

Prerequisites Familiarity with or interest in issues related to animal, human, or planetary health or another field related to the work of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Members who previously served on the Council for a total of six years are eligible for reappointment following a one-year hiatus. In special circumstances and by mutual agreement of the dean and individual member, the hiatus and/or term limit may be waived.

Hiatus Required? After the completion of three terms (a total of six years), a one-year hiatus is required prior to re-appointment unless waived by mutual agreement of dean and member.
